Book orders are in your child's backpack today. The due date for orders is February 14. February Book-It lists are also in the backpack. You have this week to complete the January book list. Those turning in book lists are readers and writers! Please give your child the gift of reading. Not only will they become readers, but they love time with you.
The Unit 5 post-test was sent home today. Most kids did very well. Determining the difference between 2D and 3D shapes proved to be difficult even though we worked with shapes and used those terms . Anything your child missed will be checked again before May. Feel free to work on those items. Unit 6 returns to counting to 100, adding, and subtracting through 10. Teens and the tens can be hurdles for those struggling with counting. Practice while in the car or at bath time. Make up word problems to solve while making supper or folding laundry. Kids need real-life experiences to understand these abstract concepts. Reading and writing - much of the same. We practice every day by using the skills learned while trying out new skills. You can help by having your child write a few sentences about our day for homework, then read it to you. A little one-on-one can go a long way. Kids will be learning the moon phases and about planets and stars this week. Prepare to be blasted with cool information! Our room mom asked for each child to help with costs for the Friendship party February 13. Please do your part and send $3 this week. Valentines are due by Friday. It's sad, but we do have someone taking things. Four chapsticks are missing from my supplies. If your child has come home with chapstick that you didn't give him/her, please question where it came from. I use them for "Happy Chappy" when students are focused and participating. Several kids have offered to buy more which is admirable and sweet, but it's important to me that the child who took them be honest and return them. I'm out Thursday for a St. Louis trip to check on Baby Eli one last time before delivery the 14th. Remind your sweetie to be on super behavior for the sub. Stay warm and safe! Mrs. Bailey |
