Kids A-Z log in information is taped inside kids' folders. This is the online reading program we use at school during Daily 5. Kids know how to use it correctly. Check frequently during use to be sure your child isn't simply clicking without listening to a story and following along with the words, reading it alone correctly, then completing the quiz. The program isn't any good if kids are cheating. Fall Party $ money has been sent by: Alec, Laelle, Taylor, Abigail, Keyley, Lilly, Karmen, Jacob. These kids need to bring $2 on or before Wednesday: Jeremiah, Eva, Amiya, Ruby, Wyatt, Madilyn, Addalee, Karter. Our Fall Party is this Friday, the 19th, beginning at 9:00 and ending by 10:00. Dale, Laelle's dad, is planning a fall craft and healthy treats for our early morning party. He sent a bright yellow letter in students' mail Thursday inviting everyone to join in the fun. If you can provide treats or other items, please contact Dale. His number and email address are listed on the letter. To help provide materials for the craft or game for each party, please send $2 by the due date requested (Wednesday for the Fall party). These kids have brought their $2 already: Alec, Keyley, and Laelle. If your child will not be participating, please let me know in advance.
Learning this week: *Reading - Stellaluna: retelling a story, characters, rereading to find answers to our questions *Writing - Personal Narratives will be continued with time available Wednesday for the summative writing assessment. Students with a completed narrative will be rewarded when we have our Writer's Celebration. Kids should be spelling all Kindergarten and First Grade List one sight words correctly in their stories, beginning sentences with a capital letter, ending with punctuation, and including many details within their true stories about a small moment of time they want to share. *Phonics - Controlled "r" the vowel is called an r-controlled vowel. or sometimes the “bossy r” because the r “bosses” the vowel to make a new sound. When the “a” is followed by r, it makes the sound you hear in “bar” or “car”. When the “o” is followed by the r, it makes the sound you hear in the word “corn”. The “ir”, “ur” and “er” make the same sound /er/ as in the words “bird”, “fur” and “her”. *Math - Topic 4 Subtraction Facts to 20: Fact families are helpful to know (3+4=7 so 4+3=7 and 7-3=4 and 7-4=3). Picking out details to determine where to add or subtract is an important skill kids have trouble with. Our Topic 3 assessment went very well for most kids. Many of you are working with your children on the homework pages. Your children are more confident during math, able to keep up with instruction, and are catching on to new lessons quickly. You make every bit of difference in your child's success!
