Learning this week: Weekly Theme: Nursery Rhymes - Focus rhyme: "Jack and Jill". Tracking words by pointing to the word being read. If only four words are on a page and six words are read, you run out of words while you are still speaking! Students acted out the poem for understanding and meaning. We talked about what a rhyming word is and looked for pairs in the poem and in a song "Have You Ever Seen?" Students also learned "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe". We sang "I Ain't Gonna Paint No More" with the book to find more rhymes. Reading: Our second Daily 5 structure: Work on Writing. We practiced building "stamina" and were able to complete 10 minutes without interruption. Read to Self is at 11 minutes without interruption. Our goal is 15 minutes for each. Students were allowed to trade the classroom library books for 2 new books for their book bags. They now have a leveled B reader, their My Letter Aa Book, My Letter Bb Book, and the A-Z Reader Jack and Jill. Writing: Carrying on independently as writers and practiced saying a word slowly, stretching the word, and writing down the sounds heard. Handwriting and Word Work: Letter Bb, hearing beginning sounds while writing words that begin with /b/, stretching words to hear their letter sounds to write the sounds we hear. Writing numbers 5 - 9. Beginning all letters and numbers at the top and moving the pencil downward to write. What a busy week! There are so many things to learn at the beginning of the school year. I have to brag, this is the most kind-hearted group of kids I've ever had. We have tremendous potential for a fun year together. Thank you for everything you have done to prepare your child for this adventure. I appreciate the communication I've already experienced. Please remember that I am always willing to talk with you about any concerns or questions.

Notes: Don't forget early dismissal Mondays at 3:10 I will be absent Tuesday the 25th for dentist and doctor appointments Bless you for all that you do! A review of information presented during Kindergarten Kick-Off:
*I have a family too! I understand busy and stress. Please share any situation that may be affecting your child's behavior or feelings. *I won't believe crazy stories about you if you won't believe those you hear about me. Talk to me if you have ANY concerns or questions. Email to schedule a meeting or to ask me to call you. I avoid answering the phone when I am teaching. *Website review - many of your questions can be answered here. Play around with the links, you can't mess it up! The school supply list specific to my classroom is on the "Parent Informational Links" page. *Form friendships with other parents. You need this. *Paperwork - any not completed while here can be sent in your child's backpack Thursday. *I will help students with routine Thursday. Please stop at the classroom door if walking them into the building. I will call you during the day if your child is struggling. Pictures are definitely allowed. I will have a special place outside our classroom that you may use. If I am not dealing with a struggling child, I may be available for a picture, but I can't promise. My first obligation is to the students in the classroom. I will take pictures of those who ride the bus to school so you have that special memory to keep! *After we get settled, I will direct kids to give me any papers in their backpacks, pull out home lunches, show their snack, etc. *Every child will have a transportation necklace that will help with dismissal after school. Please be sure this is returned every day for at least a week. After that, you may keep it or throw it away. *Two pages were set out for pick up. Many parents forgot to take them. The link below is one of them. If you didn't get the "I Can" Common Core guide, please let me know and I will send one home. A Quick Reference Guide to Mrs. Bailey's Kindergarten Classroom *You will always be kept informed as events, assessments, and expectations. We have a long way to go, but we get to do it in baby steps. We've got this! Thank you for blessing me with your sweetie. I will strive to be the teacher I would want for my grandchildren. Can you believe it’s here? Kindergarten Kick-Off is Tuesday, August 11 from 5 - 6 pm. That night we can say “Hello” and let you find where your cubby and seat are. You can tour the school to find the cafeteria, gym, computer lab, library, art room, and music. These are other places you will spend time while at school. Be sure to bring your school supplies with your name on them.
On the night we meet I will ask you how you will be going home after school. Every student will have a name-tag necklace with this information on it. You will get to wear this necklace for the first week so teachers can help you get to the right place after school. We have lots of helper-teachers, so there is no reason to be afraid on your way to class or to the buses. Just tell a grown-up you need help. Please know your bus number, or that you will be a car rider or go to Tiger Tales. It is best for you to go home the same way everyday so there is no confusion. If you are a bus rider, riding the bus home the first day of school is a great way to start. Any time throughout the school year that you have to go home differently than normal, you must bring a note so I can get you to the right place. In Kindergarten you will be learning so many things. Any easy way to prepare is by writing your name using a capital letter for the first letter of your name and lowercase letters for the rest of your name. It is also important to read everyday, write stories and letters, use number, color, and sight-word flash cards so you are quick with answers, and practice listening to follow directions. Listening is a big part of being successful in school. Parents often ask what you need to know most in getting ready for school. The very most important thing you need is respect for others and manners. If you have those qualities, we can learn the rest together. I look forward to our time together. We are going to make many new friends and have tons of fun. I will be anxiously waiting to meet you Tuesday! Mrs. Bailey |
