Friday was the most beautiful day we've had for Field Day in a long time. The kids had a blast. Thank you for sending extra clothing. Poor babies were so cold in the air conditioning. I have no doubt they went home exhausted and slept well.
We have three and a half days left together. Unbelievable! Progress reports are complete, my classroom is packed for the move to first grade. Leadership binders are complete and awaiting progress reports. They will be sent home together with progress report information inside the binder. We are coasting now. Although, I am still teaching reading, writing, and math so kids have routine and learning. As a treat, I told the kids they can bring toys from home EVERYDAY this week for free choice. The rules are: items must fit inside the backpack and be for inside play, no electronics, no play guns or play weapons (sorry, not even Nerf), action figures without weapons are okay. If you are unsure about an item, email me. ONLY MY kids are being given permission to bring toys. I can't speak for other teachers. I will be giving away stuffed animals to kids caught being amazing. If your sweetie brings one home, give extra hugs and applause. It's been a tough few weeks. The kids are tired - they work hard at school to learn and behave. I know it's tough because I have to do it too! I hope the free choice fun of sharing toys from home and my stuffed animal rewards lead us toward a teary dismissal at 12:30 Thursday. I just heard from a parent that Mrs. Crighton-Smith emailed last Monday concerning possible first grade placement with me. If I had my wish, I would take every one of my current students plus my reading students with me to first! That would be around forty kids, but that's how much I have enjoyed them. I have been touched by so many of you contacting me and hoping to have your child placed with me. Thank you for your trust. I cannot be successful in my job without your support. I'm only with your child a short time in their lives. You are there from the beginning and every day. YOU make the most difference in their lives. Bless you, and thank you for sharing your child with me. See more zoo hotos below!Field Day Information- Mrs. Bailey’s Kids Friday, May 18th 9am-11am for PreK/K/1 Students should wear: clothes that can get dirty, tennis shoes, and a hat Students should bring: a change of clothes - they will get WET! Students should remember: to apply sunscreen before coming to school and bring a lunch if they do not want to eat the hot dog sack lunch Kindergarten will eat lunch around 11:20. My class will most likely in our room if it is really hot outside. From the Field Day committee: This is a special day for SOUTH students. Volunteers need to give their full attention to students participating. Family members are welcome to eat lunch with students, but Field Day is a school activity and it is for students and volunteers only. If you have filled out the Field Day volunteer form and not received a letter about your duties, please contact [email protected]. The committee sent a note with older students that mentioned swimsuits under clothes, but this will be a hindrance to Kindergarten kids during bathroom breaks. Do not send Kindergartners in swimsuits. Water bottles were mentioned as well. Kids do not need them as we will have frequent opportunities to visit a fountain. Water bottles will get lost. Thank you, Mrs. Bailey See more zoo photos below! Fun Times in May! Thank you parents, aunts, and grandmas who came to chaperone at the zoo! You saved my life today! Thank you for the thoughtful and wonderful Teacher Appreciation Week gifts! I'm loving the beautiful faces full of excitement when they bring their gifts. I truly feel loved! Reminders for the zoo field trip Thursday May 10th: Send a sack lunch if you checked that you would. Refrigeration is not available. Be sure to use an ice pack if your child's lunch needs to stay cold. Kids need a jacket, hat, and sunscreen. We are not shopping in the gift shop. We will leave at 9:00 on the dot. If your child is late, they will have to stay with another class until we return. If your child is not going to the zoo with us, you may bring him/her to school at 12:15 when we are scheduled to return. **Parents signed up to chaperone: Please meet us at the zoo near the entrance. Buses usually park down the hill between the zoo and the fairgrounds. I will have a list of the kids you will be chaperoning and phone numbers for you in the event of an emergency. Please keep in mind that siblings will not be allowed to attend and alternate arrangements will need to be made for them. Please forgive the lag in website updates! I am trying. I am overwhelmed with progress report tasks. Last week we discussed the attributes of insects. Kids created an insect on paper then constructed the insect our of playdough, pipe cleaners, googly eyes, and toothpicks. These were fun to watch develop. We read several non-fiction books about insects and focused on ladybugs. This week we are learning the life cycle of a frog, the vocabulary from our non-fiction book from National Geographic, and fun information like frogs have a sticky tongue that helps it eat. Sight Words: (this week and last week) list D which should be mastered at this time - focus on "where" and "what" Handwriting Letters: words that include r family blends: br, cr, dr, gr, pr. This week we are reviewing blends that include the letter l: sl, pl, gl, bl, cl. Many kids do not hear the /r/ or /l/. Please correct your child if he/she is leaving it out of words with blends at the beginning. Word Family: -ut. We have completed every word family for Kindergarten! Math: Topic 14: Describe and Compare Measurable Attributes - comparing objects by length, capacity, and weight. Color is an attribute, but we can't measure it. This is a fairly easy topic, but the vocabulary can be difficult since these aren't words we use everyday. Upcoming Events: May 18 – Field Day - hats and sunscreen! May 24 – Last Day of School Dismiss @ 12:30 |
